French Magnolia Group / Amateurs de Magnolias en France
The ambition of this website is to gather all the informations about magnolias in France and to offer a platform where magnoliaphiles could exchange.
We wish to make the gardeners want to plant magnolias which fit perfectly with many french terroirs and which flower from march until august in white, yellow and all the shades from light pink to purple.
Modern botanical classification has assembled in the single genus Magnolia all the species previously included in varius genera such as Michelia and Manglietia. There are nowadays 245 species, with more or less 35 (species and subspecies) hardy, as well as hundreds of hybrids and cultivars. Add to that the "new" species along with their hybrids considered almost hardy (zone 8 or 7) currently tested in French regions.
Le propos de ce site est de réunir toutes les informations concernant les magnolias en France et d'offrir un lieu d'échange pour tous les passionnés magnoliaphiles.
Nous souhaitons donner envie aux jardiniers de planter des magnolias qui sont très bien adaptés à de nombreux terroirs français et qui fleurissent en blanc, jaune et toutes les nuances du rose tendre au pourpre.
La botanique moderne a rassemblé dans le genre unique Magnolia toutes les espèces appartenant autrefois à divers genres, notamment Michelia et Manglietia. Il y a donc actuellement quelques 245 espèces, dont environ 35 (espèces et sous-espèces) rustiques, ainsi que plusieurs centaines d'hybrides et cultivars. De plus, il faut ajouter toutes les "nouvelles" espèces et leurs hybrides à la rusticité intermédiaire (zone 8 ou 7) en cours de test dans plusieurs régions de France.
